My name is Rachel Patty and I currently live in Chapel Hill where I am a full-time nanny to a wonderful five year old little girl! I grew up in the tiny town of Snow Hill, near Greenville, and studied Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating college I adventured to Denmark where I worked as an au pair. I moved back to the US in the middle of an academic year, which is how I began nannying. I have been extremely interested in literacy ever since I started the School of Education at UNC, which led me to the decision of attaining my master’s degree online in reading education.
I was turned off from reading as a child from lack of interest in the books I was assigned and reading being made into a competition by the Accelerated Reader program. I dreaded reading and everything that went along with it until I was in college. It wasn’t until then that I fell back in love with reading and realized how important it truly is to one's life. For these reasons I decided to focus on literacy education, in hopes to prevent negative literacy experiences among future generations.
Aside from nannying and continuing my education through the MAEd-READ program I love spending time with my golden retriever, Brody, and fiance, Colin. I love to cook and spend as much time as I can outdoors!
